Scars and stretch marks are common skin conditions that affect many people. Scars are formed as a part of the natural healing process following an injury to the skin. As a result of skin damage, the body produces collagen to mend the affected area, often forming a scar. Stretch marks, however, are lines or streaks on the skin that occur when it is stretched rapidly due to growth spurts, weight gain, pregnancy, or muscle growth. They initially may appear as reddish or purplish lines and, over time, may fade to a lighter color. Both conditions, while harmless, can be a source of cosmetic concern for many individuals.
